Last week was the Independent Fashion Bloggers (IFB) conference in New York. Created by bloggers, for bloggers, this two-day covered some major information. I felt so inspired by the topics covered – and the other majorly stylish writers – I wanted to give you a recap of the key points:

- Blogs offer a higher level of engagement than large corporate sites and traditional advertising. Obviously, advertising has been changing quite a bit in the past few years. Traditional ways of introducing a product to the public has changed. No one wants to be bombarded with ads. Instead, consumers are interested in peer reviews and authentic feedback on a product. Bloggers offer a unique perspective on products and their usefulness. This is because bloggers take the time to genuinely understand and review the brand or product they write about. Readers are more likely to engage in a conversation about – and even purchase – a product reviewed on a blog because of this.

- An amazing idea is more important than your number of followers. If you’ve just started a blog, you might not have a lot of traffic. Don’t be discouraged! There is a lot of meaningless content on the web. If you have an amazing idea, it’s much more important than how much traffic you’re getting. All it takes is ONE important person to see your idea and connect with you. Better yet, take your amazing idea and reach out to other bloggers and influencers to help you get your traffic up. Everything starts with an idea.

- It’s not taboo to be your own brand. Chances are, you started your blog as a personal outlet. Writing - or art, or fashion – might be your passion. Whatever it is that you blog about, your content and perspective is unique. No one else can be you. Get yourself out there and be proud of what you represent. It’s not taboo to promote your projects because what you’re doing is different and special!

I’ll be sharing more about the conference this week. There were so many great ideas, sponsors, and bloggers that I couldn’t possibly cover everything in one post. Like McKenna Olson, and her adorable DIY camera strap! She took a necklace and used it to tote her camera around in style. So cute!

Check back later this week to read more! And be sure to visit IFB – it’s an amazing resource.
