On Sunday, I was invited to participate in a collection review for Remedy. My friend Ashley is lead designer for the label, which is a sustainable clothing line based in New York City. I was really delighted to assist with the editing process, since I’m such a fan of Ashley’s style.

Several years ago, Ashley and I worked together at a couture house in Midtown Manhattan. I always admired her attention to detail. Sewing was never my forte, so I was always fascinated by her design process. She is a fantastic seamstress. Even with difficult alterations, I could never see any flaws or signs that the piece had been changed.

Her designs for Remedy really amaze me. She carefully selects locally sourced vintage garments and adapts them for today’s lifestyle. This may require a slight alteration, or a total revamp of the piece. It may sound easy, but it’s not. Alterations are very technical, and one wrong decision can ruin the entire garment.

During the fitting, I saw just how drastically she has altered the garments. Take a look at what she did to this dress:

The day was so much fun. I can’t wait to go to her show during fashion week! Be sure to visit her new website, which will be live on September 10th.
