Although you might never guess it, I wear glasses (contacts mostly). As a child, I thought that glasses were the epitome of cool. They seemed to be a rite of passage to adulthood, and what was cooler than that? The truth is, glasses create a mystique. The right pair of frames is not only a personal accessory, it is your ultimate style signature.
It’s about time for me to buy another pair of prescription glasses, and this video gave me some inspiration. It also includes great tips for picking out the perfect pair of glasses. (And look for the pair of spectacles that have the same look as Prada’s baroque sunglasses from 2011!)

I used to make the most unfortunate choices in eyewear. For some reason I never picked a good pair of frames so I stuck with contacts.
Then I finally found my perfect frame in grad school. Of course now they are falling apart — damn those modern plastics — so I’m trying to get used to wearing contacts a little more so they don’t deteriorate on me any quicker.
Jacqueline, I’ve had the same pair of frames for YEARS. They are wire-rimmed, rectangular shaped glasses. I’ve loved them to death. Think it’s time for me to put them in the fashion archives and try a new pair. Eventually, I’ll pull them out again. I tried the online retailer thing once and, when they arrived, they were crazy large for my head (even though it was one of those sites that let’s you do a “virtual try on”). Also, they made me feel dizzy after wearing them for 2 hours. Since then, I’m hesitant to buy glasses online.

I really admire people like Iris Apfel who make the glasses a big part of their look. I’ve tried bolder looks for my own specs, but I just feel like I’m wearing costume glasses!
I rarely go out of the house with my glasses on. It makes me feel like I’m sick or not dressed appropriately. I attribute this to my mother always asking me to take my glasses off for pictures. But perhaps the right pair would be seen by the outside world :)
